Sound Off
Can you clarify what type of reduced trash service rate the city gives for elderly or low-income residents?
Yes. In a previous Sound Off it was incorrectly reported that the city had a reduced rate for qualifying elderly or low-income residents. In fact, you must be both elderly and low-income to qualify for the rate. According to city spokeswoman Lisa Patterson, to qualify for the reduced rate, people must be at least 60 years old and have had an annual income in 2008 less than $11,440, or be at least 60 years old and serve as the head of a household that had 2008 income of less than $15,400.
