What are the laws in Lawrence as well as the state regarding people taking dogs or other pets into stores? I was at World Market and a woman had a little dog on a leash in the food section. I also saw dogs in the child section of the shopping cart at Hy-Vee twice in the last month.

According to the Kansas Food Code, live animals may not be allowed on the premises of a food establishment. Exceptions are made for patrol dogs accompanied by police or security officers. Service animals assisting a disabled person are also allowed in areas that are not used for food preparation but are usually opened to customers.
