Sound Off

I just got off the phone with the Sheriff’s Association. It sounded incredibly like a shakedown. There were recordings of my pledge. What will happen if I don’t follow through with my pledge or if it’s delayed?

While the Kansas Sheriff’s Association appreciates it when people follow through with their pledge, they won’t be arrested if they don’t, said Darrell Wilson, executive director of the association, which is based in Salina. “If they don’t want to do it, just don’t do it,” he said. Wilson said the association needs to be notified about the decision, or else it will continue to contact people who have made pledges. The money collected by the sheriff’s association helps pay for training, provides a death benefit for officers killed in the line of duty and provides scholarships for the children of deputies, among other things, Wilson said.
