How much money does the city of Lawrence spend on Christmas lights, garland, man hours to put up and take down, diesel fuel used for the vehicles like cherry pickers, and the electric bill? It seems there are more decorations this year.

City Manager David Corliss said in addition to lighting downtown areas, the city was able to add a few lights to the Union Pacific Depot and the landscaped area near Sixth and Rockledge. “Any additional city expense in the acquisition, installation and maintenance of lighting, garland and related items have been minimal and the cost to the city treasury well within budget,” Corliss said. “We do not have a separate ledger accounting of such expenses.”
