What service does the Salvation Army provide the city of Lawrence since its shelter is closed?
“The Salvation Army provides all sorts of services to our community – the overnight shelter was but one small part of Salvation Army service,” Capt. Wesley Dalberg said. The Salvation Army in Lawrence feeds between 250 and 300 people weekly through a community feeding program. This fiscal year, it served 15,907 meals to people in need. Funds are also available to provide off-site emergency housing in local hotels or motels, mostly for families. Holiday meals are also served to those in need during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons. The Salvation Army also pairs with Scotch Fabric Care to collect coats for the needy. It has youth services: a Scouting style program, winter basketball league and summer camps.
