How will the city pay for this KU football shuttle that will run from downtown to the stadium? And I remember something about the city was going to waive the fare if people showed a recent receipt from a Lawrence hotel or a Lawrence store. Is that part of the program?
A new $1 round-trip fare will cover part of the cost. The city estimates it will have to pick up about $11,000 of the cost. City Manager David Corliss recently told commissioners that he intends to use money from the city’s guest tax fund and the city’s parking fund to pay for the expense. The city is not moving forward with the previously discussed idea of waiving the bus fare if the rider could show a recent receipt. A staff memo said an analysis of that idea suggested it would be too much of administrative task to run such a program.
