Is there a law in Lawrence that prevents drivers from backing into a parking space? Does this also apply if you are at the grocery store and pull forward, so you can leave straight out?
According to city ordinance, when parking spots are marked, vehicles should park “in the direction of the flow of traffic or at the angle indicated” by the markings. “You have to park with the flow (of) traffic and not back into an angled spot,” said Lawrence Police Sgt. Bill Cory. Cory said the ordinance only applies to city-owned parking stalls and does not apply to private parking lots, such as one at a grocery store.
