What is going on with the Lawrence Alternative High School? There seems to be a lot of work going on over there.

The Lawrence school district is renovating the former Alternative High School facility at Holcom Park to house an expanded Community Transition (C-Tran) Program and a Community Connection Center. “C-Tran offers students with special needs opportunities to gain independent living, vocational employment and social, leisure and recreation skills as they advance beyond high school,” said Jamie Beedle-Vakiner, the school district’s assistant director of special education. “The Community Connection Center will offer vocational education for students, including experiences working in retail in the district clothing room, which is being moved there from Cordley Elementary; district laundry facilities and culinary arts,” said Patrick Kelly, career and technical education specialist for the school district. Johnson County Community College partners with the district’s career and technical education program.
