When might we expect East 23rd Street, from Massachusetts to the edge of town, be repaved? It’s the bumpiest of any street in town.

Chuck Soules, director of public works for the city of Lawrence, said 23rd Street would be milled and repaved from Ousdahl Road to Barker Avenue as part of the 2009 street maintenance program, with work set for later this summer. From Haskell Avenue to the east city limits, 23rd will be milled and repaved as part of the 2010 street maintenance program, Soules said. The section from Haskell to Learnard Avenue, he said, will be repaved as part of the Kansas Department of Transportation’s replacement of the 23rd Street bridge, tentatively planned for 2011-2012.
