I see that high school graduations will be at Memorial Stadium this year, or the schools’ gyms, which are much smaller. Why can’t the high schools use the Lied Center for indoor graduation?

The Lawrence school board considered several options, including the Lied Center, for high school graduation, said Julie Boyle, the district’s communications director. “The board voted on April 13 to use KU’s Memorial Stadium with the high school gymnasiums as backup sites in the event of inclement weather,” she said. School board Vice President Scott Morgan said it would be cheaper to use Memorial Stadium with the high school gyms as backup sites. “Next year, there’s going to be a lot of pressure to use the new fields,” Morgan said. Superintendent Randy Weseman also noted smaller budgets. “This is not a time when we can run dual sites,” he said.
