John Calipari’s 8-year, $31.65 million contract at Kentucky begs the question: How much does Bill Self make at Kansas?
Self’s contract, which was signed last summer, provides him $3 million per year for 10 years. The contract runs from April 1, 2008, to March 31, 2018. Self’s base salary is $229,900. He receives $2,270,100 for professional services. Add in a $500,000 retention payment earned if he remains coach the entire school year and it comes out to $3 million a year. His incentives are: Final 4: $100,000. NCAA Championship: $200,000. Big 12 Regular Season Championship: $50,000. Big 12 Tournament Championship: $25,000. AP Coach of the Year: $50,000. This year he met two of the incentives, good for $100,000.
