What is the population of Alaska?

Alaska is the largest state in the union based on physical size but has the fourth smallest population. According to 2007 U.S. Census data, 683,478 people live there. Only three other states have fewer people: North Dakota, Vermont and Wyoming. In comparison, Kansas has a population of 2.7 million people.
