Sound Off

I’ve seen more and more able-bodied young people in cars with handicapped stickers, and they are parking in the handicapped spaces. Is this against the law? Can anything be done about it, or is this a good neighbor policy?

It is against state law for someone to use a handicapped placard not assigned to them, said Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Edna Buttler. If you suspect someone is breaking this law, call law enforcement, she said. “It’s everybody’s responsibility to make sure that those privileges are not being abused,” Buttler said. Anyone in violation of the law can be fined between $100 and $300, according to state law.
