What are the proposed completion dates for each of the athletic fields being built by the school district? Will they be ready before the spring season starts for sports like baseball and softball?
The lawsuit filed by neighbors of Lawrence High School may delay completion of the fields, which school district officials had hoped to have complete by mid-August. The football and baseball fields at LHS and Free State High School were tentatively scheduled to be complete by Feb. 13, said Tom Bracciano, the district's facilities director, as was the track at LHS. Soccer fields could be complete by April 15; until then, soccer teams would play on the football fields. The LHS softball field could be complete by April 15, while Free State's softball field could be complete by July 15. In all, Bracciano said the fields could be ready by Aug. 15. But Superintendent Randy Weseman said those target dates are in jeopardy. "We'll just have to wait and see as we duke it out in court. I don't see it as a good thing in terms of completing it in a timely fashion," he said.
