Who's responsible for cleaning the trash off the sidewalks, streets and alleys downtown?
"Who's responsible? It's really a cooperative effort between the business community and the city," said Chuck Soules, the city's director of public works. "We do certain things, and we hope they try to take care of their area as well." Specifically, Soules' department runs street sweepers through the central business district on a regular basis, he said. Lawrence Parks and Recreation empties trash cans. The city's solid waste division empties trash bins in alleys and cleans up alleys. Business owners and employees are expected to pick up cups and other debris in the area of their businesses.
