Sound Off

I was walking downtown yesterday and noticed a large metal sphere. It's near a parking lot close to the Rhode Island Street entrance to the Riverfront Mall parking lot. What is it?

According to a 2006 Lawrence Journal-World article, the sphere belonged to the Lawrence Paper Company, which once sat where City Hall is today. The large metal ball was filled with pulp material and used to make cardboard boxes. The machinery-turned-art object was removed from the site when construction began on City Hall.
