Sound Off
Was former Kansas running back great Gale Sayers the Chicago Bears' first selection in the 1965 NFL draft?
No. The Bears selected linebacker Dick Butkus out of the University of Illinois with the third overall selection of the first round and used the next pick to select Sayers. Both players reached the Hall of Fame and the tandem is generally regarded as the greatest one-two punch in draft history. The two superstars were drafted by the defending NFL champions and never won a championship themselves.
