Who is responsible for maintaining the landscape at public schools? I noticed about half of the newly planted trees at South Junior High are already dead.
Roger Paschke, grounds supervisor for Lawrence public schools, said the grounds department maintains grass, trees and sports fields, while PTOs are in charge of maintaining flower beds. In the case of the trees at South Junior High, Paschke, who oversees a staff of five, said a contractor planted the trees but did not water them. The contractor is replacing the trees in the fall, Paschke said.
