When there are big construction jobs like the hotel project near campus, who is responsible for the damage on the city streets because of the big trucks?
Chuck Soules, the city's public works director said in most cases, the city maintains streets that sustain damage from construction. However, in some cases such as the construction of the Oread Hotel, repair work is the responsibility of the contractors. Soules said because the streets are public, it is the city's responsibility to ensure they are maintained. Sometimes the city may repair the streets and bill the contractors for the work, and in other cases, the contractors may do the work. Soules said the decisions are made on a project-by-project basis.
