Sound Off

Where are all the hummingbirds this year? I saw them for a short period, maybe for a month or so, and now they have disappeared.

Marty Birrell, nature interpretive supervisor at Prairie Park Nature Center, said Lawrence doesn't have a large summer population of hummingbirds. It's more common to see hummingbirds in May and late April before they begin their migration in June. People will see more hummingbirds again during their fall migration in late August and early September, Birrell said.
