Where did the money come from to pay for the football players, coaches and staff to go to the Orange Bowl? Was any of it from tuition costs paid by the students?
The money to pay for travel to the Orange Bowl came out of the money the school receives for playing in the Orange Bowl. The Big 12 Conference gives each bowl-participating school a budget, which comes from the payout the bowls make. In the case of a BCS bowl, the payout from the Orange Bowl was $4.5 million per team - about $2 million of which is reserved for team travel. The rest of the money is split among the other conference schools.
