Is there a phone number that older and disabled people can call to get volunteers to help shovel? Those on limited income can't afford to pay someone to do it for them.
The city of Lawrence and Douglas County Senior Services offer a Safe Winter Walkways service that matches volunteers with residents unable to shovel snow. To apply for snow removal, applicants must be unable to pay for snow removal services and be a resident of the property. Applicants also must provide a snow shovel. A consent and release form must be completed, which is available online at www.lawrenceks.org/safe_winter_walkways. The form must be returned to Douglas County Senior Services, 745 Vt. For further details, call 832-3338.
