Why is there a white trailer parked at the firehouse on 19th and Haskell?

The trailer is called The Safe House, said Lisa Patterson, city spokeswoman. It’s an educational trailer that allows Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical firefighters to simulate a house fire with smoke and smoke detectors. “The Safe House visits every fourth-grade classroom in Lawrence during the school year,” Patterson said. When the trailer’s not being used, it’s stored at the station at 19th Street and Haskell Avenue.
