Is it true if you have a KU bus pass, then you can ride the Lawrence T for free? If so, then who pays for the ride? Is that why they are asking for an increase, to cover the cost of those who ride for free?

Casey Toomay, interim public transit administrator for the city of Lawrence, said that all KU students can ride the T for free. It’s part of a reciprocal system that allows T riders with a pass or transfer slip to ride KU buses for free, Toomay said. Toomay said the city initiated the program with the idea that the university and the city would each absorb the costs of additional riders from the program. Increases had been planned before the reciprocal program began in August, Toomay said.
