What are the pupil-teacher ratios for the elementary schools in Lawrence?
"The base ratio used to staff elementary schools is 24:1. The base ratio doesn't include all staff, such as counselors, music and physical education teachers and other staff considered 'outside' of the ratio," said David Cunningham, the district's division director of human resources. Additional staffing is provided to schools with a high number of students who qualify for special education services and/or free or reduced-price meals. In 2008-09, the average elementary class sizes are projected to be 19 in kindergarten through third grade and 21 in fourth through sixth grades, Cunningham said.
