There's a parking area behind Watkins Museum that is clearly marked for visitors only, and it is a tow-away area. This is one car that parks there for 24, 48, 72 hours at a time and almost seven days a week. I've called dispatch several times and even talked with a walking police officer, yet nothing has been done. Why is that?
Officers responded to two anonymous 911 calls regarding a parked car behind Watkins Museum in May and June, police said. Both times, the vehicle was parked on private property; therefore any tows must be initiated by the property owner. Mike Wildgen, interim director of the Watkins Community Museum of History, said that he wasn't aware of a parking problem but that he would monitor the area, warn and eventually tow parking violators. Museum staff, visitors and researchers are allowed to park in the area, he said.
