Why on the new license plates, the numbers are before the letters instead of vice versa as it has been before?

Joan Wagnon, the state secretary of revenue, and Carmen Alldritt, the state director of vehicles, announced the arrival of a new standard vehicle license plate design in June. The new design, known as the Ad Astra plate, features the Great Seal of Kansas with a light blue background and a new number/letter combination, for example, 123 SAM. According to the Kansas Department of Revenue, Kansas statue requires the plate design to be changed every few years. The last plate design change was in 2001. Unlike past reissues that occurred within a one-year period, this design will be phased in during several years.
