What is the difference between the KU Medical Center and the KU Hospital? I thought the medical center was the hospital.
The KU Medical Center is composed of the schools of medicine, nursing and allied health on the KU campus at 39th and Rainbow in Kansas City, Kan. KU Hospital is the independent hospital that shares that campus. For the longest time, KUMC and KU Hospital were both governed by the chancellor of KU. But in the late 1990s, KU Hospital was separated to allow it to better compete in the Kansas City area. Perhaps further confusing matters, KU Hospital is sometimes referred to as KU Med.
