Is there any place in town you can take large pieces of Styrofoam such as that encasing objects that you buy so that they can be recycled instead of just being thrown into landfills?

No, there is no local place to recycle large pieces of Styrofoam. Tom Hogan, waste reduction recycling specialist for Lawrence, said it is because there is not a processing plant near. The large pieces are light and bulky enough that they would not be easy to transport. The closest place to recycle large blocks of Styrofoam is the City of Kansas City Community Recycling Center, which is at three different sites in Kansas City, Mo.: 400 N.W. Barry Rd.; 9051 Hillcrest; and 4735 Forest.
