I would like to know why the railroad tracks on 11th Street are being repaired instead of removed? The tracks have been removed on every street to 27th Street. The tracks only run 200 feet farther south. It seems like a waste of time to repair them. Why not just remove them?

Tom Orzulak, Lawrence street division manager, said it's Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway's decision to not remove the tracks. They still consider 11th Street an active crossing, and they use it for a place where they turn train engines and cars around. In the past, the city and the railroad company had made an agreement while doing drainage work that the railroads would be abandoned south of 12th Street.
