Sound Off

On Massachusetts Street downtown between 11th Street and Sixth Street, there are some sculptures that have been there for a while and I was wondering what the cost to the city of Lawrence was for those sculptures?

If you're referring to the sculptures that are part of the annual Outdoor Downtown Sculpture Exhibition, the city pays each artist a $750 honorarium. Eight artists - some local, some from as far away as North Carolina - are chosen each spring by a committee of the Lawrence Arts Commission, and their work remains on view downtown for a year.
