Sound Off

Recently, you had an article about the classrooms having telephones. I'm wondering how much it cost the district to install.

"As part of the school district's five-year facility improvement plan, all school phones and phone systems, most of which were old and failing, noncompatible and no longer serviceable, were replaced districtwide at a cost of about $900,000,"said Mike Eltschinger, director of technology for the Lawrence school district. "It was a district safety priority to provide telephone service to all classrooms. "The new phone system does not include text messaging, but it does provide needed tools for improved emergency and school communications, efficiency of operations, reduction of phone line charges, and accessibility to parents and the public."
