What are the chances of someone getting struck by lightning?

The odds are in your favor. But each year more than 400 people in the United States are struck by lightning, according to the National Weather Service. About 70 of them are killed. Many more suffer neurological disabilities.

Lightning can strike up to 10 miles away from where the rain is falling. If you can hear thunder, you are in danger of being struck.
