Sound Off

I saw an exhibit from the Smithsonian on Olympic sports figures and it said, I believe, that Bill Russell with the Celtics was the first black coach of a professional team starting in 1967. I thought it was Buck O'Neil in 1962. Please clarify.

In 1962, John "Buck" O'Neil became major league baseball's first black coach, with the Chicago Cubs. Bill Russell was the first black head coach in the NBA, starting with the 1966-67 season.
