Is there a state poet laureate?

Yes. Gov. Kathleen Sebelius and the Kansas Arts Commission established the first Kansas Poet Laureate program in 2004.

In 2005, Jonathan Holden became the first poet laureate of Kansas, and he will serve in that position through June 30, 2007. He is distinguished professor of English and poet-in-residence at Kansas State University.
