On Channel 6 News recently, I heard that half of the high school students at the school district's virtual school were drop outs. I was just wondering if those numbers counted against the school district's numbers? And what is the district's actual drop out rate?
The students mentioned in the 6News report did not drop out of school, said Gary Lewis, administrator at the virtual school.
"These students determined the virtual school program was not an appropriate fit for them and returned to their home high schools," Lewis said.
"Virtual education is not for every student. It requires parent involvement, and on the part of the students, it requires self-motivation and the ability to work independently."
According to Kansas State Department of Education records, USD 497's drop-out rate is 1.1 percent.
