On Thursday, Westar Energy cut the power in my neighborhood for a few hours for tree-trimming! How did they decide that was a good idea and don't they take into consideration the weather before arbitrarily cutting someone's service for maintenance?

On Thursday, Westar did have a scheduled outage in the area of 25th Street and Ridge Court for a tree-trimming operation, spokeswoman Gina Penzig said. The tree trimming was "desperately needed" and the power was out from 8:15 a.m. to about 11 a.m., she said. A total of 22 customers were affected. A forecast for storms Friday was the reason for going ahead and trimming the trees. The trimming had been scheduled before the heat wave, Penzig said. It was scheduled for the morning to beat the afternoon heat but "unfortunately when it's 100 degrees out there is no time when it is actually cool out," she said. Customers had been notified that the outage was going to take place, Penzig said.
