I would like to know how the individuals are selected for singing the National Anthem at the KU basketball games, and do they have to be a student?

Generally, selections for the vocalist are made within KU's music and dance department, said Tom Stidham, an associate professor in the department who oversees the process. The department holds auditions in late October or early November. Singers audition before a panel of judges. Stidham said he tries to select only students, but occasionally for a special event, someone who is not a student is chosen. Stidham said there also are a few extenuating circumstances when the music department does not select the singer.
