When Lawrence experiences storms and tornadoes and it knocks out our electricity, what areas are repaired first to get the electricity back on?

Westar Energy crews first go to where they can get power back to the most people, said spokeswoman Gina Penzig. If there is a transmission line down serving 1,000 customers, they would go to it before fixing a neighborhood line that serves 100 customers, she said. In fact, that neighborhood line might be affected by the transmission line, she said. Public and employee safety conditions also are factors in where the repair crews go, Penzig said.
