I noticed recently that the city has blocked off a lane along Clinton Parkway west of Wakarusa Drive for curb work. Why wasn't this done when the street was closed for several months to construct a roundabout in the area?
Chuck Soules, the city's director of public works, said that the roundabout project and the curb replacement project were being done by two separate contractors. He said that made it difficult to coordinate the construction, though that would have been preferable. The curb project was bid several months later than the roundabout project. Soules said many concrete companies are busy during the summer doing asphalt projects because they must be done when temperatures are warm. That limits their ability to do concrete projects during the summer, which is when the road was closed for the roundabout construction.
