I am confused as to how our seniors at Lawrence High and Free State could be through with classes. Could you have someone explain how their school year ended May 10, when the rest of the children have to go to school till May 24 or 25. How do the seniors get out their 180 days?

According to state regulation, high school seniors are not required to attend as many hours as other students. Districts must offer seniors 1,086 hours, while they are required to offer other students 1,116 hours. Thus seniors' schedules are about five days shorter, according to Sandee Crowther, the Lawrence school district's executive director for planning and program improvement.

Classes for seniors may have been done Tuesday, but students still have finals. Their last day technically is Friday.
