I was reading about the virtual school and the summer school program, and ever since we started this program of Internet classes I have been curious as to how these students are tested for progress and advancement. Could you please explain that? I'm concerned about cheating. Couldn't anybody sit down at the computer and take the test for them?

Students are monitored continuously, said Gary Lewis, principal of Lawrence Virtual School, 2145 La. Pre-semester, semester, and final exams are proctored. Lewis said teachers likely won't give much weight to unit or chapter tests that aren't proctored. For regular assignments, the school functions much like a regular high school, trusting that students will do the work on their own, he said.
