I was wondering if there was any way the city would consider removing the safety island that is south of 23rd Street on Louisiana Street? It seems to be causing more problems and it needs correcting. I don't want them to lose face over it, but I think that thing is just not working.
The island was requested by the adjacent neighborhoods and approved by the Traffic Safety Commission and Lawrence City Commission in order to help pedestrians cross Louisiana Street safely, said David Woosley, the city's traffic engineer. Comments from area residents indicate that it is working, he said.
