Which weekend caused more stress on Law-rence Memorial Hospital, the weekend of the Wakarusa Festival or the weekend of the Fourth of July?

Officials at the hospital said the Wakarusa Festival weekend was the most stressful because of the volume of patients coming in, in comparison to the Independence Day celebrations, which were primarily in the evening for two days. The 55 Wakarusa Festival patients seen in the emergency department presented a larger variety of complaints complicated by problematic social issues. These patients took more staff to manage and their issues took much longer to resolve.

But, the eight Independence Day patients seen, though fewer in number, had a higher percentage of serious life-threatening injuries, officials said.
