I have a question on the renewal of teachers' licenses. I heard that the fee went up for renewing licenses and I was wondering if this is for regular certified teachers, for certified substitute teachers and emergency substitute teachers. What is the increase in fees if there is any and why are they increasing fees?

The fee on July 1 will increase to $36 for all teacher licenses, including those for substitute teachers, said Peg Dunlap, director of instructional advocacy for the Kansas National Education Assn. It has been $24 since 1986. Dunlap said the fee was increased because of added expectations and increased costs for processing licenses. She said the federal No Child Left Behind law, for example, has placed more demands on the Teacher Education and Licensure Office of the state Department of Education.
