Is there any place to get rid of used or dead batteries, such as D's, C's, AA's and so forth?

Yes. The Lawrence-Douglas County Household Hazardous Waste Facility accepts batteries. You need to call the Waste Reduction and Recycling Division at 832-3030 to schedule an appointment to drop off the batteries. It might be a good idea to wait until you have a lot of batteries to get rid of and bring them all at once, a recycling division representative said.
