Sound Off

I happened to catch the school board meeting the other night on television. I noticed that they don't say the Pledge of Allegiance anymore at the beginning of the meeting. I know that they have done that for the last couple years and was wondering why that has changed. The kids say it in school. So I was wondering why the school board doesn't say it anymore?

Lawrence school board members stopped saying the pledge in summer 2004. They did not think reciting the pledge was necessary for their meetings, according to Julie Boyle, the district's director of communications.
