Was Kansas University ever named Kansas State University and if so, when was the name changed?

According to KU's University Relations, KU has always officially been known as the University of Kansas since its formation in 1865. However, during the 1920s, some publications of the era mistakenly referred to the university as "Kansas State University."

What everyone knows today as Kansas State University in Manhattan was formed in 1863 but officially called the Kansas State College of Agriculture and Applied Science. The name was officially changed to its current form in 1959.
