Sound Off

I just saw in the paper where Christmas Day, the year 2000, there was a couple of inches of snow on the ground and I was wondering when was the last Christmas Day that it snowed on Christmas and we received a substantial amount?

In a story about the frequency of white Christmases that appeared in the Journal-World a year ago, Kansas Climatologist Mary Knapp said that there have only been 14 times between 1939 and 2003 when there was at least a trace of snow recorded Dec. 24-26. The largest amounts were Dec. 24, 1948, 3 inches and Dec. 26, 1939, 2.5 inches. On Dec. 25, 1987 there were 1.5 inches of snow.
