The mailboxes in my neighborhood have been tagged with florescent yellow markers, and I am presuming it was by the U.S. Postal Service. What purpose do they serve and can we take them off?

The markers aren't from the post office, Lawrence Postmaster Judy Raney said. The markers might have been placed on the mailboxes by Journal-World newspaper delivery workers or those who deliver other area newspapers owned by The World Co., circulation manager Joe Lewis said. Delivery workers sometimes use the markers to help keep track of delivery stops on their route or to mark changes along the route, he said. If someone doesn't want the markers on their mailboxes, they can call the Journal-World circulation department at 832-7135.
